The importance of schemata to reading comprehension

The main purpose of the present paper is to examine how schema/schemata impact reading comprehension. It starts with the presentation of some definitions of key terms, such as reading (comprehension) and schemata, found in the literature, and moves to the discussion of the importance of schemata to reading comprehension as evidenced by numerous studies carried out over the past 20 years.
