The research analyzed aspects of identity construction among undergraduate students who were working towards a teaching license in visual arts, in the Open University of Brazil (UAB/UNB). In a university extension activity, the purports that comprise the profile of a future educator were registered in the form of memorials. Points of transition in personal life that explain one’s professional choice were analysed. In underlining the teachers’ training process, an attempt was made to contribute towards an understanding of Distance Education as a whole, revealing the profiles of students who entered the program.
