The concept of “beliefs” in the applied linguistics time tunnel

The aim of this paper is to reflect upon the concept of beliefs about teaching/learning in the field of Applied Linguistics, specially in the area of teaching and learning FL (foreign language) and L2 (second language). In order to do that, I present an overview of how this concept has been researched lately in Brazil and abroad. I conclude with some variables that contributed to the consolidation of this important concept in the time zone of Applied Linguistics.
