Skopos e (in)certeza: Como tradutores/as funcionais lidam com a dúvida

Quando o assunto é tradução, não há regras. Traduzir é um processo que envolve tomada de decisões, e cada uma delas gera incerteza. Partindo da perspectiva da teoria do skopos, pretendo mostrar como um procedimento top-down pode, até certo ponto, minimizar essa incerteza. O nível mais alto é o do encargo da tradução, que determina a escolha do tipo e forma da tradução. Essa é uma decisão polarizada. Uma tradução documental geralmente “documenta” a pragmática do texto-fonte, enquanto uma tradução instrumental possui uma pragmática própria, por exemplo, com relação à dêixis. No próximo estágio, o/a tradutor/a precisa lidar com as normas e convenções culturais. Nesse momento, a tomada de decisão se torna mais complexa porque o encargo pode exigir a reprodução de alguns aspectos da cultura-fonte e a adaptação de outros às convenções da cultura-alvo, tanto em traduções documentais quanto instrumentais. O próximo estágio é a língua. É possível pressupormos que a maioria das traduções deve estar em conformidade com as normas do sistema da língua-alvo. Entretanto, podem haver casos em que as normas da língua-fonte tenham que ser reproduzidas, por exemplo, em uma tradução interlinear (palavra por palavra) para propósitos linguísticos. Nos dois últimos níveis, as demais dúvidas devem ser sanadas, primeiramente, de acordo com as limitações contextuais e, por fim, seguindo as preferências pessoais do/a tradutor/a, se necessário.
