Focus and Scope

The term Belles Infidèles emerged in seventeenth-century France due to the discussion on the maintenance of the original’s beauty versus the respect of its content during the translation process, culminating in the debate about ‘fidelity’. Translating involves manipulation as well as the desire to be faithful and to create, and to be (in)visible. Hence, translations suffer losses, but they also offer gains and, at the end of the work, usually pressured by time, translators keep reflecting on the (im)possibilities of the translation.

Belas Infiéis journal emerged in the second semester of 2011 and was first published in the first semester of 2012. It arose from professors’ and students’ desire of the newly created Postgraduate Program in Translation Studies (POSTRAD), in the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation (LET), of the University of Brasilia (UnB), to expand the opportunities for scientific dissemination in this area.

This is an online academic journal, continuous flow, open access and it does not establish any charge for submission or publication. It aims to publish articles, translated articles, literary translations, interviews, reviews on Translation Studies books, translation reviews, and “archives”.

These works will be developed and submitted by students and researchers of (under)graduate programs in Translation Studies, from Brazilian and foreign institutions of recognized academic merit, by translators and translation scholars, to provide the dissemination and discussion of academic production on Translation Studies. It is intended for scholars and researchers in this field of knowledge, being an invitation to deepen their studies and share their experiences.

Belas Infiéis guarantees the quality of its texts through rigorous blind peer reviews. Manuscripts must be submitted via Belas Infiéis system which will be evaluated by the editorial team regarding adherence to the journal’s guidelines. Blind reviews are conducted by at least two expert researchers in the field. The reviewers are listed in the journal's Editorial; if necessary, ad hoc reviewers will be invited.

We offer Belas Infiéis journal to the community of translators and researchers in Translation Studies.

Kind regards,

Belas Infiéis Team
