Theoretical reflections and the translation process: the project Diversas faces da tradução na contemporaneidade

Discussions on translation theories have grown exponentially, often dialoguing with the different “turns” in Translation Studies. Several trends have developed, showing that the complexity of the translation process also corresponds to a profusion of theoretical reflections that are not always compatible with each other. In this context, this paper aims to present the project Diversas faces da tradução na contemporaneidade, developed at Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), which culminated on the publication of two compilation, with the translation of articles by either very renowned authors or somewhat less famous theorists who use different theoretical and methodological approaches to support their work. The collaborative translation project enabled discussions that were intertwined with the research of the people involved in the translation process, in a movement that looks at the translation practice considering the principles that govern it and the repercussions that they may trigger. As exemplified in the two translation experiences of theoretical texts on audiovisual translation, participating in the project allowed for metareflection regarding the translation process and foster critical thinking supported by the hermeneutic models, enabling participants to recognize their roles as disseminators of scientific knowledge produced in different parts of the world, which is made available (free of charge) to Portuguese-speaking readers.
