In education, self-regulation involves different aspects of monitoring, volition and actions aimed at achieving goals. The study intended to verify the reliability and validity of an instrument of self-regulation of learning for students of higher education, and to identify how it relates to academic performance. 516 students from Federal Institutes of Brazil participated and answered an online questionnaire. The questionnaire revealed adequate levels of psychometric adjustment and self-regulation explains students' academic performance.
