Abstract

This quantitative study, based on questionnaires, aimed to investigate the perceptions of bilingual teachers in China regarding task-based teaching of Portuguese as a foreign language. A questionnaire was administered to twenty-five participants. The results indicated that the teachers had limited knowledge of the methodological foundations of task-based language teaching, but recognized the benefits of adopting this pedagogical approach for enhancing students’ communicative competence. It is expected that this study will provide a meaningful contribution to the reflection on teachers’ perceptions of language education in Asian versus Western contexts.
