O DICIONÁRIO MONOLÍNGUE PARA APRENDIZES EM SALA DE AULA: UMA FERRAMENTA DE ENSINO/APRENDIZAGEM
Keywords:
pedagogical lexicography, dictionary for learners, dictionary useAbstract
This article presents the results of a research study on teaching the use of a monolingual English dictionary. The study investigated what the students knew about dictionaries and then taught them reference skills in using this tool. The instruments used to collect the data were: a questionnaire, a pre and post test, treatment with activities using a monolingual dictionary, and an interview. The data revealed that (1) learners neither had monolingual dictionaries nor used any; and, (2) they had not received any orientation on how to use this tool properly. By the end of this study the learners were more aware of the importance of using monolingual dictionaries in learning a foreign language, and of the need to develop dictionary skills.
