Abstract

In his book “Translation and localisation in video games: making entertainment software global”, Miguel Ángel Bernal-Merino describes and analyses factors which influence the video game localization process, from both the commercial and the translational aspects. The author also traces the historic evolution of the video games localization industry as well as describes the Translation Studies theories and how each one contributes, or could contribute, to studying video game localization. One of the author’s aim is to promote a better collaboration between both sides of the localization process: the industry and the translator. Bernal-Merino’s book contributes to the training of new professional translators or translators who already work on the localization market, since his descriptions and analyses guide and raise the awareness of trainers, scholars and/or professional translators about the problems and challenges to be faced during their work in localization.

Author Biography

Cecília Franco Morais, Universidade Federal de Uberlândia

Cecília Morais has a bachelor degree in Languages, Portuguese-English, conferred by the Federal University of Uberlândia in 2008; and a has a non-degree Graduate Course in Teaching in Higher Education conferred by the Catholic College of Uberlândia in 2010. She works as an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teacher since 2009. She works at the municipal educational system of the city of Uberlândia-MG since 2010. She teaches Elementary School students (6th to 9th grades) and students at the Young and Adult Educational System (6th to 9th grades). She worked as teacher and organizer of teacher training courses in the areas of Educational Technology (EdTech) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at the Julieta Diniz Learning and Educational Project Municipal Centre (CEMEPE), in Uberlândia-MG, from 2013 to 2015. She also worked as an online course moderator, focusing on teacher training and the use of new technologies applied to education. She has a bachelor degree in Translation (2018), conferred by the Federal University of Uberlândia. She worked as translator and proofreader at Babel Traduções Translation and Proofreading Junior Enterprise from 2015 to 2017. She was the Babel Traduções’ counselor at the Núcleo de Empresas Juniores (Junior Entreprise Center) of the Federal University of Uberlândia (NEJ-UFU) in 2016 and Marketing Director of the same company in 2017. She is a translator, in the pair Portuguese-English, and an English and Portuguese proofreader. She is also MA student of Linguistics in the Graduate Program in Linguistics (PPGEL), Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU).
