SUFICIÊNCIA E ADEQUAÇÃO DOS COMPONENTES DA COMPETÊNCIA COMUNICATIVA DE UM PROFESSOR DE LE SOB ANÁLISE

This paper has proposed a more concise framework of Communicative Competence (CC) and has reviewed the most important analyses of structural frameworks of CC made throughout the history of Applied Linguistics in Brazil and around the world. Moreover, it has analyzed the level of CC that an English teacher as a Second Language has showed at work according to components of the CC (with respect to the framework proposed here). From an emic approach, the triangulation of different instruments and qualitative data analysis, we observed that each of the components of the CC has been fairly present and acting to maintain the language input in the classroom, but in smaller dimensions than those provided for an optimal experience. The results are mainly due to more structural than communicative experience. The framework we present here still lacks the necessary dynamism we think the Communicative Competence represents for the great process of language teaching, but it points out the way to further research on the issue.
