Law n. 12.244 and its conception of school library: an analysis

Abstract

The article proposes an analysis of Law 12.244, which deals with the obligatory nature of school libraries in public and private Brazilian educational institutions in the light of two aspects that touch on its object: the educational perspective and the librarians' recommendations. For this, it considers the theoretical assumptions of historical-critical pedagogy and the documents on the theme produced and disseminated by the Federal Library Board. It notes the absence of a proposal of educational work in the school library present in the Law and conceptual fragility in its demands, concluding for its low effectiveness in school education.

Fabíola Ribeiro Farias

É graduada em Letras, mestre e doutora em Ciência da Informação pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Coordenou a rede de bibliotecas públicas e os projetos para a promoção da leitura da Fundação Municipal de Cultura de Belo Horizonte (2010-2018) e os projetos para a promoção da leitura da Superintendência de Bibliotecas Públicas de Minas Gerais (2007-2010). É leitora-votante da Fundação Nacional do Livro Infantil e Juvenil e, atualmente, realiza estágio de pós-doutorado no Instituto de Ciências da Educação da Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará.

É graduado em Letras pelo Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem, da Universidade Estadual de Campinas, onde também fez mestrado e doutorado em Linguística. É professor da Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará desde abril de 2010, onde atua nos cursos de graduação de Pedagogia e Letras e nos programas de mestrado Profissionalizante em Letras ”“ Profletras e de Pós-graduação em Educação, do qual é o atual coordenador. Lidera o Lelit ”“ Grupo de estudo, pesquisa e intervenção em leitura, escrita e literatura na escola.
