In defense of The Flowers of Evil: the claims by Baudelaire’s attorney

I present here a translation of the final claims by Charles Baudelaire’s defense in the occasion of the lawsuit filed against The Flowers of Evil, in 1857, made by Gustave Chaix D’Est-Ange, his attorney. The translation is preceded by a comment introducing the circumstances of the case and the defense’s discourse relations with the prosecution oral support and with the notes from Baudelaire to his attorney (both previously translated into Portuguese), in addition to the principles that guided the present translation.
