Abstract

In his work, Patrick Modiano explores the Parisian topography in order to recreate a memory of the city of Paris before his birth. He is especially interested in the reconstruction of the French life during the German Occupation: the evocation of different neighbourhoods and places in Paris, as well as their habitués, allows the narrators of Modiano’s writings to come into contact with the past and with the characters who once lived there. In this article, I propose a critical study of the translation into Spanish of Modiano’s Dora Bruder ([1997] 2014), which has been done by María Pino for Seix Barral publishing house. I particularly focus my analysis on the specific problems, dislocations and displacements that arise in the translation of this topography of postmemory (HIRSCH, 1997).
