Abstract

This article aims to discuss the importance of needs analysis in the preparation course for specific purposes, or “Instrumental” as known in Brazil. They represent a process of data collection associated to student’s needs, wants and lacksrelated to English Learning. In this paper, It will be presented steps and tools suggested by Schutz and Derwing (1981), Yalden (1987), Hutchinson and Waters (1987) to carry out these analyzes. Furthermore, It will discuss data collected from students in Analysis and Systems Development Course in a public institution in Minas Gerais.
