Abstract

This work analyses the agroecological transition process in small family farms managed in organic (OPS) or conventional (CPS) production systems.Technical parameters were used to classify the farms in levels of the agroecological transition processto evaluate ten family farms under organic management, located at Portal da Amazônia territory, Northen Mato Grosso, Brazil. In order to compare systems, the method was applied on adjacent or nearby farms under conventional management. The work allowed a global assessment of the main technical parameters found in the farms. In organic farms, agroecological transition index reached a mean value of 52 on ascale of 0 to 93, higher than those found in conventionally managed farms. The proposed method allowed better understanding of the stages occurring in agroecological transition processes.
