This study proposes an analysis of the agroecological potential of open spaces in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro (RMRJ), aiming to provide inputs for regional planning focused on food security, environmental regeneration, and climate change mitigation. Considering the context of COP 30 and contemporary urban challenges, the study reaffirms agroecology as a strategy for territorial reorganization and climate justice, capable of integrating food production, social inclusion, and environmental conservation. Based on a methodology that combines detailed cartographic analysis and parametric analysis, areas with potential for agroecological conversion were mapped, and land-use scenarios were designed to combine food production, rural housing, and infrastructure. Thus, the study demonstrates that, through peri-urban planning guided by agroecology, it is possible to promote the transition to fairer and more sustainable territorial models, contributing to food sovereignty and climate adaptation in the RMRJ.
