A análise da estruturação da burocracia imperial e sua natureza política relacionada à execução da Lei de Terras possibilita que compreendamos a forma como demandas específicas relacionadas a questões fundiárias puderam ser agenciadas e favorecidas a curto, médio e longo prazo no Império do Brasil entre 1854 e 1889. Tomo por objeto de estudo a província de Santa Catarina e notadamente a região do Planalto, correspondente à municipalidade de Lages no século XIX.
