práticas e discursos de “escravização” de ingênuos (Rio de Janeiro, 1888)

Entre 1888 e 1890, o Juízo de Órfãos e Ausentes da 2ª Vara da Corte recebeu significativa demanda de ex-proprietários pela tutela de filhos de ex-escravas. Eles alegavam que poderiam oferecer aos menores condições de vida que suas mães e familiares não poderiam oferecer. Por sua vez, os familiares dos ingênuos tutelados recorreram ao Juízo para denunciar que os menores sofriam maus-tratos e estavam trabalhando em condições análogas à escravidão. Denúncias desse tipo também foram feitas por abolicionistas em periódicos como o Cidade do Rio, o Gazeta de Notícias e o Gazeta da Tarde. Esse artigo se propõe a analisar os discursos dos ex-proprietários para justificar a tutela dos ingênuos e os usos da legislação orfanológica para atender a seus objetivos.
