Guadalupe Teresa Amor Schmidtlein, conhecida no México como Pita Amor, nasceu em 30 de maio de 1918. Era a mais nova de sete irmãos de uma família rica, dona de uma grande propriedade rural produtora de cana-de-açúcar (a Usina San Gabriel). O pai, Emmanuel Amor Subervielle, teve seu auge político e econômico durante o governo de Porfírio Díaz, colapsando, contudo, ao final da Revolução Mexicana, após a Reforma Agrária promovida por Lázaro Cárdenas.
