Abstract

The translation of the poem Achilles to Patroclus (SIEHL, 2016) emerged from a class exercise, proposed by professor Rodrigo Tadeu Gonçalves, in 2017, at the Federal University of Paraná. The accessible language and the suspense created by the author’s structural choices were aspects considered valuable in the source text, which ended up being established as the translation’s north, and guided a great deal of the decisions that built the translated text. Considering these factors, the translation should clearly display the romance between the title’s characters, using a language that avoids embellishment as much as possible, and preserves the dramatic effect caused by the breaks of verses and stanzas.
