Abstract

Voice direction, a collaborative practice in the performing arts, establishes itself as a place for developing voice and text work with the actor, during stage production processes. Although it can be considered an extension of voice pedagogy, we propose that, in addition to their common grounds, there are factors that differentiate their practices, such as context and duration of work, conditions and expectations of results, roles and relationship dynamics and other specific skills. This article analyzes these factors based on the ways in which the concepts of vocal self-image, vocal congruence, vocal authenticity, affective regulation and unconscious vocal habits are approached in both practices.
