This article proposes a critical reflection on the importance of vocal training in the theatrical context, based on an analysis of four performance experiences between 2006 and 2012. Through a writing situated between the autobiographical and the essayistic, a defense of the organic integration between performers and voice professionals is articulated. It argues that the institutional neglect of vocal health in Portuguese theater reveals a structural problem, and suggests the need to reposition vocal work as an essential dimension of scenic practices.
