This study aimed to analyze the consumption and eating patterns of the academic community of a university in the state of Bahia and the role of a local fair in this context. The methodology employed combined bibliographic research and field research conducted through the application of questionnaires to 336 consumers. The results indicate a strong preference for quality products, demonstrating a growing awareness of the importance of a healthy and sustainable diet. In addition, most of the interviewees demonstrated a preference for shopping at local fairs, highlighting the importance attributed to the Family Agriculture and Solidarity Economy Fair of UFRB. It is concluded that promoting a culture of healthy eating in educational institutions, such as UFRB, is essential to support the sustainability of food systems and improve the well-being of the academic community.
