Abstract

This text deals with the main difficulties faced by family farming to carry out the agroecological transition, expand and diversify production in the extreme south of Bahia. In order to understand the dynamics that guide the cultivation, commercialization and consumption of agroecological products in the region, a bibliographic review and qualitative survey of information was carried out through interviews with producers, consumers and professionals in the area. The study shows several negative impacts caused by the expansion of monocultures and the intensive use of pesticides at the regional level. On the other hand, the importance of agroecology is reaffirmed as an alternative in socioeconomic, cultural, environmental sustainability and integral health to the population that adheres this practice. Hence the need and challenge to strengthen the agroecological model through technical training, rural education, policies to encourage production and disposal, as well as awareness-raising actions about the benefits of consuming such products.
