Quilombola Rural Communities (CRQs) are examples of the persistence in living autonomously in a State that acts in the abandonment of people present in these territories. Based on this, this paper seeks to debate the issue surrounding the CRQs and how the national development model presents itself as a major threat to the life of this portion of the population in rural areas. Analyzing data on agricultural production and its financing, deforestation and deaths caused by Covid-19, it is intended to point out some inconsistencies in the discourse of promoting family farming production and its direction towards commoditization in a short period of time. Therefore, the purpose of this work is to raise a reflection for the urgency in recognizing the potential that CRQs have in working in an agroecological way in promoting local development with protection of culture and nature, both fundamental for the formation of the identity of an ethnic group which promotes family farming long before Brazil became a nation capable of formulating public policies distorted by market forces.
