Abstract

Agroforestry systems (AFSs) are relevant components within a land-use and land-cover mosaic because their interface between silviculture and agriculture, and produce food, fruits, fibers, as well as timber and non-timber forest products. The objective of this work was to describe diversified forms of land use and compare them with others in North Coast region of Rio Grande do Sul State through testimonies collected from the oral story and observation of the land use and land cover using satellite images analysis. Geotechnologies, in this case the satellite images, enabled generating maps and information to support integrated analyses of the space and the agricultural areas. The land-use and land-cover analyses performed augmented the knowledge about the spatially explicit representation of agroforestry systems demonstrating the diversity in landscape level and can be used as more sustainable strategies for land use
