Abstract

The objective of this work was to evaluate the potential of pigeon pea, Cajanus cajan (L.)Millsp. coverage as a green manure in the integrated weed management in reforestation in Pará State. The experiment was installed in the district of Vigia, Pará State, as a completely randomized design with two treatments and three replicates. Cajanus cajan was interplanted with seedling of Schizolobium amazonicum Huber ex. Ducke in a 4 m x 4 m spacing. After 30 and 90 days of sowing of legume coverage, two treatments were evaluated. The treatments were: no pigeon pea between tree lines and pigeon pea between seedling lines. The plants were evaluated to shoot biomass production, nutrient contents in leaves of pigeon pea, and degree of infestation, diversity and richness of weeds. Shoot fresh and dry biomass production of the evaluated specie were 16,1 t/ha e 11,5 t/ha, respectively. Regarding the infestation, diversity and richness of weeds, the best results were found in treatment with Cajanus cajan after 90 days of sowing of legume coverage.
