The behavior of eight green manure species was evaluated in intercropping grown. The field experiment was carried out, in Piracicaba, SP, Brazil, in a Eutroferric Red Latosol soil. The experimental design was randomized block, with five replicates and nine treatments (eighth green manures species and a control). The experimental sugar cane area contained 10 lines of plants 10 m long and 1.40 m apart. The green manure had been sown in 2 lines of plants 10 m long and 0.50 m apart in intercropping grown. The green manure had presented a good development in intercropping system and it didn't cause fall of productivity in the sugar cane with exception of the sunnhemp that harmed the productivity of the sugar cane plants. The results strengthen the recommendation to intercalate green manure for sugar cane after first harvest. It is found substantial amounts of biological nitrogen fixation present in green manures above ground parts
