Esta traducción nos transporta a Chile, y transmite la cotidianeidad que Arelis Uribe, la escritora de la obra, captura magistralmente. Bestias forma parte de una colección de relatos cortos del libro Quiltras, cuya prosa nos revela más acerca de Chile de lo que deja entrever a primera instancia. Quiltras fue publicado en 2016 y, desde entonces, ha ganado diversos premios, ha sido publicado en México y en España, e incluso ha sido traducido al portugués brasileño. La historia ha traspasado fronteras y ha consolidado a Uribe como una de las voces más relevantes de la narrativa latinoamericana contemporánea. En esta ocasión, la traductora adopta un enfoque extranjerizante que preserva las características y los aspectos lingüísticos y culturales de Chile, presentes como culturemas. La traducción utilizó notas al pie de página para hacer sentir al lector la presencia viva del lenguaje y la realidad social que Uribe retrata. Además, la traducción intenta mantener el ritmo rápido y enérgico de la prosa de Uribe, por lo que se rebela contra las normas establecidas de la lengua inglesa, saltándose signos de puntuación a medida que la historia avanza, imitando así la forma del original. Sin duda, Bestias tiene un trasfondo cultural y social muy profundo, el cual no es perceptible con una lectura superficial. La forma en la que la narradora se expresa, sus acciones, sus pensamientos o los lugares que visita dejan entrever la vida de las y los chilenos “comunes y corrientes”, quienes ven en su prosa su propio hogar.
