We inform the opening of submissions for the Dossier "Dismantling Brazilian Environmental Policies" organized for publication in the Journal Sustainability in Debate of April 2023. The invitation is extended to authors interested in the subject and who are producing unpublished texts based on original research.

The dossier intends to publish scientific articles that contribute to the discussion on the topic of the current process of dismantling Brazilian environmental policies. It has two main intentions: (i) to reflect on the theoretical concept of “dismantling”, seeking to understand its origins, characteristics, variations, and limits; and (ii) to attract national empirical case studies that help exemplify the concept and focus on sustainability.

The articles selected to integrate the dossier should focus on the following topics, although related topics may be accepted:

  • Climate goals and Brazilian participation in global climate negotiations;
  • Water and energy management;
  • Forest fire policy;
  • Indigenous policy and demarcation of indigenous lands;
  • Quilombola policy and demarcation of quilombola territories;
  • Inspection and control of deforestation;
  • Threats to conservation units and other protected areas;
  • Mining in protected areas;
  • Use of pesticides, family farming, and public health;
  • Relationships between society and the State, and performance of the third sector;
  • Conflicts in the countryside;
  • Budget actions and execution of international financing and socio-environmental funds;
  • Militarization of management positions in public administration agencies and foundations;
  • Use of fake news, post-truth, and narrative disputes in the production of public policies;
  • Environmental monitoring;
  • Public sector and civil society resilience strategies amid dismantling;
