Agroecology in metropolitan areas:
the case of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Region, Argentina

This article summarizes the development of agroecology in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Region. It describes aspects like production experiences, alternative markets, actors and social movements, presence in public institutions and universities, from the origins of the field during the 80s´ to the present day. The paper presents a periodization, proposing four periods with different characteristics: the 80s´, the 90s´, from 2001 to 2008, and from 2008 to 2016. Finally, there is a reflection about the scope of the field in the region and its future perspectives.
