Memory and imaginary referred to territory and work show paradoxical dimensions of located life of subjects. Thus, this paper aims an approaching of two historical periods in the Tierra Caliente of Michoacan (México): the Hacienda Nueva Italia ”“belonging to a large state system”“and the Ejido ”“a type of collective farming property”“in order to better understand the relationship of the worker with this area, which defines a singular territory at the beginning of 20thcentury. Methodologically, the research compiles testimonies of current Nueva Italia’s inhabitants for a reconstruction of these periods through the analysis of imaginaries and bygone perception of territory, revealed by the former workers-informants. Consequently, the discussion is articulated around (i) the space and imaginary of the hacienda Nueva Italia in local memory, (ii) quotidian work in the hacienda and private life (iii) the struggle for the property of the land, iv) abundance and conflicts in the ejido, and (v) the Cusis and Cárdenas as allegories of the hacienda and the ejido.
