University Square: Space from refletion about the public art in Goiania

Abstract

Reflections and theoretical definitions about architecture and urbanism often appear words such as: art, culture, space and individual. The artistic, creative and social appeal played by architecture in process of structuring and spatial configuration is remarkable. Between building and urban scale, some elements help in configuration and stimulate living together and convivial stay. The public art in this sense can transform cultural and structural perception of spaces. The spatial legibility is fundamental to the vitality of urban centers. Its interpretation happens gradually from the experiences lived, generating links. The purpose of this article is to discuss the importance and contribution of urban art in the formation of the imaginary, its relationship and communication with architecture and surroundings, through literature related to the theme and the object of study. Furthermore, the search includes immersion ”“ experience and photographic survey in loco, reading and analysis of the artistic manifestations presents. The result is a brief analysis of morphological and historical evolution of University Square in Goiania, identification and documentation of examples of urban art, state of conservation and interventions; also, to foster understanding and reflection on urban art as a former of the urban imagery.
