Ignition, contagion, acceleration hyperstitions as semiotic bombs
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article problematizes the communicational and media dimensions of the concept of hyperstition, developed in a dispersed manner by participants of the CCRU — Cybernetic Culture Research Unit, between the 1990s and 2010s. It is a suggestive concept for a wide range of theoretical, artistic and political movements that share a close look at certain language devices: in particular, the noise, estrangement and untranslatability of semiotic processes. To this end, as an instrument of comparison and theoretical systematization, it starts from Iuri Lotman’s (2022) late observations on the functioning of culture. As a result, it highlights the understanding that hyperstitional practices can be seen as attempts to carry out semiotic explosions.
