Abstract

This paper presents, based on specialized literature, some of the central concepts for the debate on political radicalization processes, offering an overview of the evidence found in systematic reviews on risk factors for this phenomenon. The issue is particularly relevant given the ongoing threats to democracy in several countries, including Brazil, notably by the actions of far-right groups. We selected for examination the five systematic reviews published in English by the Google Scholar platform, in the last 10 years, best ranked according to the bibliometric criteria of the Publish or Perish (PoP) software. Despite the methodological differences of the examined reviews and the presence of risk factors already identified by contemporary criminological studies, the studies also found risk factors specific to radicalization processes, which updates the need to build a Latin-America research agenda on the topic.
