FACTORIAL VALIDITY OF LEVENSON'S LOCUS OF CONTROL SCALE
Abstract
The Brazilian version of the Levenson's trifactorial scale of
locus of control was administered to 1199 male and female subjects with
an age average of 27.07 years (SD = 9.80). Data were factor analysed,
using the principal factor solution, with an eingenvalue = 1.5. Both orthogonal
(Varimax) and oblique (Oblimin) rotations were used. Results revealed
isomorphic empirical factors with theoretically postulated dimensions.
Thus, the factorial validity of the Brazilian version was established. The
orthogonal solution yielded more consistent factors. The Cronbach alpha
coeficients were also calculated for each sub-scale as well as for the Total
Internality. Results are discussed on the basis of the psychometric theory
and with references to the original and Venezuelian version's results.
