Abstract

In areas of severe deforestation and wildfiring in the Amazon, the situation of agrarian reform settlements is particularly critic. Through the Agroecological concepts and principles, the present study aims to analyse the effectiveness of the Project“Entre Rios Sustentável”PADEQ/PDA/MMA, developed by an association of farmers, as part of the agroecological transition process in a settlement in Nova Ubiratã - MT. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten beneficiary families of the project. The results indicated that projects designed and implemented with a participatory approach, which address the specific needs and circumstances of the settlers, with greater adhesion capacity and better understanding of its management process and development are more effective. Involving local subjects as well as external actors, especially with actions aiming to financial return and commercialization seem to be key points for the success of such projects
