Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of neem cake and dehydrated garlic as anthelmintic and metabolic disorders in buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis). The animals received daily supplementation with ground corn plus minerals with 2g of neem cake and 2g of dehydrated garlic during 6 months. Feces and blood were collected in the beginning of the test and two more times later. Helminth eggs per gram of feces counting technique(EPG), blood chemistry and hematologic tests were utilized. The animals had a significant reduction of EPG (p <0.01) in comparison with the beginning of the test. The last evaluation showed the smallest values. At the end of this study, neem cake and dehydrated garlic caused no hematological and biochemical disorders in dairy buffaloes. Under these experimental conditions, dehydrated garlic and neem cake were efficient in control of adult gastrointestinal nematodes in buffaloes and the animals showed no toxicity.
