Abstract

Different studiesonurban climateshowsthat the increase inair temperaturein the urban environmentis more associated withimpervious surfaceandits level ofsun exposure, types of floorsand densityof buildingsthantheanthropogenicproductionofinternal heat.In this sense, little attentionhas been paid toinfluencethe types ofroadsurfacesinurban microclimate. There fore, this studyaims to determinethe implicationsof the coating types of road structures on the urban microclimate at a fraction of the town of João Pessoa. The field research consisted of collecting data of environmental variables (temperature and relative humidity, surface temperatureand globe, speed and direction of winds) in carefully selected urban roads, lined with materials commonly used. The city of João Pessoa was chosen todevelop the research because is going through arapid process of urban expansion and has a low rate of paving their roads, particularly in the suburbs, providing the comparative studies of the main typesof coatingsused in thepaving processinlow-latitude region and hot and humid climate. The data collectedin the survey show the importance of the type of paving roads and guidance in relation tothe same prevailing winds in the process ofurban planning, aimed at urban thermal comfort.
