Como a História da Corrupção pode fundamentar uma releitura da Reforma Gregoriana

Resumo

A assim chamada Reforma Gregoriana é uma referência temática modelar para a historiografia. Descrita como a matriz dos significados históricos assumidos pela Igreja Católica desde o ano 1000, a “Reforma Gregoriana” preserva, hoje, uma feição conceitual superlativa e modernizante, quer seja formulada como a crise que pôs em movimento um vasto processo de secularização da vida política ou a revolução que moldou as identidades coletivas e as relações sociais ocidentais. Este artigo apresenta uma proposta de releitura desse fenômeno e o faz através da seguinte hipótese de trabalho: que os atores e ideólogos do papado estabelecido em meados do século XI teriam sido norteados por uma lógica de maleabilidade do poder decisório e contínua negociação dos parâmetros reformadores a ser adotados no curso das ações eclesiásticas. Esses aspectos adquirem nitidez quando a “Reforma” é examinada à luz de teses formuladas especificamente pela e para a História da Corrupção, como aquela elaborada por John T. Noonan Jr. a respeito da importância da simonia para a percepção da corrupção como fenômeno social. Priorizando alguns dos principais registros narrativos sobre governo pontifício de 1050 a 1100 e submetendo-os a uma Análise de Discurso baseada em premissas fixadas por Ernesto Laclau, este artigo inscreve o conceito de “tempo da corrupção” como fulcro de uma releitura da “Reforma Gregoriana”.
