Beyond Freud and Marx for a free society

Abstract
In this paper, I intend to return to the debate raised by Marcuse in his book Eros and Civilization, which is the search for a civilization without surplus repression, permeated by the values of Eros rather than by the values of the Cartesian cogito – which determined all Western philosophy. In this book, Marcuse goes beyond Freud and Marx in the endeavor to establish a non-repressive society, which has at its base work as play and art as the main tool for liberation. To this end, Marcuse draws on Schiller and Fourier to trace new paths towards a free society.
