The creation of stock characters is one of the paths taken by Dostoevsky throughout his literary life and the human psyche as pathology is one of the themes that, as his work matured, he worked with more frequency and mastery. In The Double the writer begins to make his way to the subject of human confusion. In this article it is intended to present the context of the work, the summary of the plot and demonstrate, through an analysis, how the writer's narrative choice is an integral part of the construction of the main character.
