Abstract

The paper deals with the peculiarities of the teaching of literary expressions not accepted by the Brazilian literary canon, particularly science fiction literature. Although the Brazilian literary criticism seems to ignore, literary works that may in one way or another be linked to the paradigms of science fiction are largely produced in Brazil. In order to discuss the point, the paper investigates the nature of such paradigms as well as its possible approach in teaching. Focusing on the utopian function of literature (and teaching), the paper approaches propositions coined by Ernst Bloch, Paulo Freire and DarkoSuvin.
