This paper focuses on the debate about the identity of libraries in the context of Vocational Education and Training (VET). The present work has the general objective of looking into this theme in order to propose a theoretical category that can be considered central to the definition of the identity of libraries in the context of VET, reflecting their uniqueness in the face of existing typologies. For this, a theoretical research was carried out, with a qualitative approach, based on a bibliographical research. The material to be analyzed was chosen through intentional sampling, being selected mainly those that addressed the themes “Vocational Education and Training” and “Libraries in the context of Vocational Education and Training”. It is concluded here that the discussion about the identity of libraries in the context of the VET must begin by understanding them not as mere support sectors within the VETEIs, but as essential units in the process of critical and integral education of students, having as a starting point starting with the social practice of workers’ education. In this way, more than mixed, multilevel, technical-academic or public educational libraries, libraries must be understood as vocational libraries.
