Abstract

Summary: Objective: to verify whether the reading mediation and cultural mediation activities carried out by Flávio Tavares, through his works, influence his readers, enabling the recognition of their cultural traits. Methodology: descriptive research, using case study as a method, investigating the importance of Flávio Tavares' mediating action. As data collection techniques, interviews with the Artist and a questionnaire with the readership were developed. Result: among the data presented, it was possible to identify the influence of Flávio Tavares on his readers' interest in getting to know literary authors, especially the aforementioned authors from Paraíba. This result allows us to reaffirm the Artist's interference in carrying out, through his work, the indirect mediation of reading, a category associated with the concept of information mediation defended by Almeida Júnior (2009), in addition to favoring the relationship between subjects and their place of belonging. Conclusions: it is also clear that Flávio Tavares' artistic production demonstrates his creativity and criticality, contextualized in his relationship with the world. The reading and cultural mediation, by the Artist, are carried out consciously and enable subjects, through the act of reading, to access and appropriate cultural goods.
