Abstract

The normal and frictional forces are contact forces present in a wide range of Newtonian mecânica problems, especially in the early years of high school. Nevertheless, a point of little discussion in the teaching of physics is the question of the conservative characteristics that these forces can assume, when some special boundary conditions are imposed. The present work illustrates the analysis of two classical mechanics problems where particular geometric constraints are imposed, producing a conservative behavior of such forces. We will present the graphic analysis of the contact forces as a function of time and distance, as well as the energy balance for both cases.
