Abstract

Virtual experiments are learning objects that use specific software to simulate experimentation, being especially useful in approaching difficult experiences to be carried out in practice in the school environment. Believing in the importance of computer simulators as a teaching strategy, based on David Ausubel's theory of meaningful learning, we propose an educational activity composed of the use of the projectile motion simulator, free software developed by Physics Educational Technology (PhET) of Interactive Simulations from University of Colorado, as well as the making and launching of rockets, carried out by teams formed by high school students, from a school in Recife-PE, with the objective of participating in the Pernambuco Rocket Olympics (OPEFOG). The use of the product pointed to the material's viability in mediating the significant learning of the physics involved, enabling interaction, playfulness and protagonism.
