Abstract

This paper presents a review of the literature dealing with
the problem of the relative eficiency of open versus closed question
format. On the basis of an empirical study, in which the same subjects
responded about the same topic with an open and closed question format,
the relative advantage of the two question formats is discussed. The
conclusion strengthens the notion that open questions are useful in the
construction of instruments with closed questions, which, in turn, are more
practical in their application.
