Gerbera has positioned itself among the most important cut flowers worldwide, as well as in Argentina. Thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis and Thrips tabaci) damage flowers, with conventional control using highly toxic insecticides and with alternating chemical groups given the development of resistant breeds. As an alternative under an agroecological approach, the objective of this work is to evaluate the influence of host plants of Orius insidiosus in greenhouses, to biologically regulate thrips. The population of O. insidiosus and thrips was evaluated in 6 cv of gerbera in a greenhouse with and without host plants (with linear mixed effects models). The abundance of thrips/flower did not have significant differences in the different varieties of gerbera. However, a 25% increase in thrips/flower was recorded in an environment without companion plants and a 70% significant increase in O. insidiosus/flower with companion plants. Concluding that the presence of host plants facilitates and stimulates the spontaneous establishment of viable populations of O. insidiosus in the greenhouse.
